[eBay] Sailor outfit? Costume? Sailor thing!

Hoo'~ It seems that I've stopped posting for a while but that doesn't mean I stopped shopping! Ehehe~!

Has anyone seen this adorable outfit floating around selling sites? Sites like eBay, Amazon, Storenvy or any costumes sites sell this cute little sailor outfit/costume.

Welp I've been wanting to do a review on this item. So I put it in time to find this for as cheap as possible (which really wasn't all that cheap but it was the cheapest I could find) and bought it.

I strongly advise people to not buy it if you're not using it solely for costume use. As cute as it is, it's not worth the money. Fortunately I didn't spend much on it but y'know...! But we live and learn!

It's a lot more costume-y than the picture depicts. I'm not sure what it is (probably the lighting
) but the fabric looks a lot nicer in the stock photo than it is!

The hat it comes with. Oh gods!

I bought this about a month ago and haven't worn it since I tried it on for a whole 5 seconds prior to this post. The fabric is cheap and the hat is TINY (or my head is massive). The hat may look better if you just clip it on instead of stretching it over your head.

Maybe I got unlucky and this seller sells super cheaply made ones or maybe I dodged a $40 bullet. I've seen costume shops sell this for, at most, $49.

The "poof " they show in the photo is not so poofy in real life. I put on another petticoat to pump up the poof.

That's better...!! It's good for costume wear only, but to trot around in this to be a cutie-patootie? Nah, I don't recommend it. You can find other sailor dresses that may cost more, but are better made.

I can't tell you how it washes because I've never worn it enough to warrant a wash. However..judging by the fabric I don't expect any miracles. It should be washed under the "delicates" setting or handwashed to avoid any fade.

[Bodyline] Shipping and Misc. Opinions

Quality ☆

I may not be qualified to have too much of an opinion since I only have only ordered so many times from Bodyline but I feel like it's safe to say their items are not shoddily made. Granted there are imperfections I have come across and elaborate on them in each item but as a whole the item is solid unless stated otherwise. I haven't come into cheap fabric or washing issues. For me, I wash under a delicate/"gentle" wash.

However you will find some items with thin fabric, as well as the lace on some items. The lace on the items are...pretty ugly or is just "too much" for the clothing.

I've seen complaints of shiny fabric. I haven't really had this issue yet. I've seen a warning for "polyester other,"
so perhaps stay away from items that list that? That's what I've been doing. You can sometimes tell from the models' pictures that the fabric is shiny. I usually check if the item is listed in "black" then look at it in black and from there it's easy to tell if it's cheap-looking shiny fabric.

Another thing with Bodyline is COLOR. I noticed that it isn't the same for all items. So if you're trying to make a BL coordinate, be careful. For example: the "SAX" in a SHOE179 isn't the same "SAX" as a schoolgirl outfit (review found here. If I come across any - which I'm sure I will - I will make a list of them here or in a separate post).
Shipping

I did EMS shipping for my first two direct Bodyline Yokoso orders and I must say it's too pricey. It would only be worth it if you DESPERATELY need whatever it is you're ordering and you WANT to be reassured it'll get to you within 3-5 days.
AIR is only $10 and it gets to you just a quickly as EMS.
Here are some numbers for a general idea of their shipping prices:
Order #1:
L264 +ACC691+ACC516 = $28
$16 for EMS shipping
Wait time: 5 days

Order #2: L398, ACC1087, ACC859, ACC327 = $55

$20 for EMS shipping.
Wait time: 3 days

Order #3:

COS410 (2), COS 561, SHOES179 (2)
$10 for AIR shipping.
Wait time: no more than 2 weeks

The two pairs of shoes, COS410 (2) and COS561 arrived in a separate package but arrived at the same time.

TAKE NOTE that the SAX schoolgirl costume and the SAX shoes are two totally different blues! I don't know if this is just a rare case or if that's common in items on Bodyline. They're two very nice blues, but they aren't exact.

They arrived like this in a package. They weren't scuffed or anything so I didn't worry too much that they were packaged with tissue paper.

I added "(??)" to the raqting because these shoes aren't for me so they don't fit me perfectly. But I can give some kind of an idea for those who are interested in BL shoes: They're for my sister. She's a size US 8 and ordered a 25.0. I'm a size US 7 and I tried these on and they were obviously a little big but only slightly. So I'm not sure if when I buy my own shoes from BL will I want a 24.0 or go with the 23.0 I measured my feet as. But I should keep in mind that I was wearing thick socks when I tried these on!

I love and don't love the skirts. My issue with them is that they're a bit see-through! Whoops! So I'll have to cover up well when I wear this. If you noticed, you'll see that the bottoms pleats are sewn together. What that's all about is for keeping the pleats in tact when being shipped. So it's an easy fix to just go through it and cut them off -- something I have yet to do. Apologies for the weird-looking skirt in the pictures! I need to retake the pictures with the thread taken out..!

The top, however, is ridiculously short. My remedy? Pull the skirt up. Sorry but that's all I got on this one! If I were a master sewer I'd lengthen the top but I don't know if that's doable even for people who CAN sew.

Aside from the weird...bit on the bow, it's a sturdy headband. I haven't tried removing the weird brown bit on it yet but I don't think that'll come off.
